Title: Investigation of Kitchen Fires

Description:

This course will go over the unique aspects of kitchen fires and the impact of different variables involved. It will give attendees an understanding of different strategies to identify accidental or intentional cooking fires.

Attendees will learn about…

The significant financial impact caused by cooking fires in recent years warrants investigation from both the public and private sectors. These investigations require the application of “court approved” fire science in developing hypotheses to identify how the range or stovetop came into contact with a fuel for a sufficient duration to cause ignition. This class will also focus on the impact of several variables in stovetop fires and the ignition of cooking oils, including the sequence of events, from the heating equipment used to the time involved, and how this can provide valuable information towards identifying accidental cooking fires or debunking false witness statements.

Attendees will receive a certificate for 2 hours of CE.

Learning Objectives:  By the end of the session, participants will be able to understand the unique aspects of kitchen fire investigations, identify red flags for accidental VS non-accidental fires, and learn how to ask the right questions early, reducing delays and unnecessary expert costs.

Presenters/Co-presenters: David Cheers, CFI, CFEI
